From October 20th to 22nd, the First Chinese Universities "Artificial Intelligence +" Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Creation Competition was held in Beijing. Under the guidance of Prof. Yin Zhouping and Tao Bo, FOCUS Team of MSE won the Special Prize of the competition with the program "Intelligent Service Robots in Courts".
This competition was held by the National College Student Alliance for Innovation & Entrepreneurship Practice and Baidu under the guidance of Department of Higher Education and Steering Committee on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education of the Ministry of Education. Altogether there were over 2000 teachers and students from 300 teams of more than 60 key universities all over China registered for the competition. After two phases' practical training and experts review, 33 pieces of works ran in the national final. Over 20 teachers and students of 3 teams from 7 schools of HUST reached the national final and achieved good results. Especially, FOCUS Team of MSE won the Special Prize.
This project of FOCUS Team mainly studied the quick recognition and pick-up skills for objects in specified ranges. For example, this technology was creatively used in small ranges like courts, thus tennis would be picked up quickly. And so it was in other ball games.
FOCUS Team is an undergraduate innovation team initiated and founded by Prof. Yin Zhouping and Tao Bo, who are also guide teachers of the team. The team relies on high-quality educational resources of MSE and the State Key Lab of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology, promoting students' research and innovation abilities. Over the years, FOCUS Team accomplished more than 50 scientific research projects of different types. In many national challenge contests and other national competitions, the team has won 3 Special Prizes, 6 First Prizes and applied for over 30 patents. In 2018, FOCUS Team was awarded as the first batch of Demonstrative Students Innovation Teams of HUST.
