After four months' review, the name list of winners of the 2019 "XPLORE PRIZE" was finally published in recent days. 50 winners among over a thousand applicants were elected and won the prize. Prof. Gao Liang of MSE won a prize in the field "Advanced Manufacturing" with his research on "Topology Optimization based Digital Design". Prof. Gao was the only winner of HUST this year.
The "XPLORE PRIZE" was initiated by Mr. Ma Huateng (chairman of the board of directors and CEO of Tencent, initiator of Tencent Foundation) and 14 scientists. The prize aimed at supporting young scientific and technical workers under 45 who work in mainland China in basic sciences and cutting-edge technologies. There were in total 1335 applicants for the first "XPLORE PRIZE" (2019). After 4 rounds of review, 50 were elected as winners.
There were altogether over 250 experts in various fields took part in the review of the prize. Among them, there were over 100 academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, showing the principle "Scientists have the final say". The awarding ceremony of the 2019 "XPLORE PRIZE" would be held in Beijing on November 2nd.
