On September 21st, the 14th Five-year Plan Seminar of Micro and Nano-manufacturing Branch of Mechanical Engineering Discipline, NSFC was held in HUST. The seminar was initiated by Department of Engineering and Material Sciences of NSFC, and organized by MSE of HUST and the State Key Lab of Digital Manufacturing Equipment and Technology (the Key Lab). More than 40 experts in micro and nano-manufacturing field from over 20 universities like Tsinghua University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Harbin Institute of Technology and North University of China joined in the seminar.

Academician Ding Han, Director of MSE of HUST gave the welcome speech. Ding expressed on behalf of MSE his warm welcome and appreciation to all experts presented, as well as the expectation of the seminar to help promote development of related disciplines. Professor Yin Zhouping, Director of the Key Lab, made the plan report "Medium-long Term Development Plan of Micro and Nano-manufacturing Branch of Mechanical Discipline (2021-2035)". In the report, Prof. Yin reviewed the development strategies of mechanical discipline of the last 5 years and development of micro and nano-manufacturing branch. He explained the significance and working principles of this new plan, and reported an overall plan for micro and nano-manufacturing branch development.
After Prof. Yin's report, over 20 experts gave reports on their own research about micro and nano-manufacturing. Experts analyzed the development needs, current situation and developing trends of this branch. At last, the seminar discussed several important issues about the branch and made some decisions on these issues.
Under the circumstances of the National 14th Five-year Plan, it is of great necessity and significance, for improving China's modern scientific and technological innovation level, to work out the future development strategies of micro and nano-manufacturing branch of mechanical engineering discipline. The seminar laid a solid foundation for future development of the branch.
