On February 18th, HUST issued “the Notice on Establishing HUST Robotics Institute”, deciding to establish the HUST Robotics Institute, which will be attached to the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering (MSE). The establishment of the institute will promote robotics study and interdisciplinary integration of HUST, helping to better serve for the national and local economic development.
Having gathered a group of outstanding experts in robotics such as Academician Xiong Youlun, Ding Han, and Professor Xiong Caihua, MSE formed a talented team led by academicians, Changjiang Scholars and Owners of China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scholars. Based on this ,MSE chaired a series of national-level projects like the 973-Plan Projects and projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation, making significant achievements in the field of robotics.
The series of books about robotics edited by Academician Xiong Youlun are selected by HUST and other famous universities like Harbin Institute of Technology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University as textbooks of robotics, cultivating generations of robot researchers. Academician Ding Han is Chief of the Expert Group for the Research of Basic Theory and Key Technology of Tri-Co Robots of the National Natural Science Foundation. MSE set up the International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications( Founding President: Xiong Youlun) and the international academic journal with the same name. This conference became an important international conference in the field of robotics. MSE also organized the annual conference of Chinese robotics, which was held for the first time in 2018 at Wuhan, and became the most influential academic event in China’s robotics field. Robot-study groups of MSE published many important papers in top robotic journals such as Int. J. of Robotics Research,IEEE Trans. on Robotics and Soft Robotics.
The HUST Robotics Institute will focus on research areas such as the intellectualization of industrial robots, intelligent driving & autonomous system, anthropometric dummy and man-machine systems. It will also carry out international academic exchanges and communications so as to influential achievements in the world in basic theories and key technologies in robot field. The institute will become the base for HUST to gather international talents studying robots and making innovations in robotics.
